In Boston, when Dick’s House of Sport opens, get to know Larry Bird and David Ortiz.

“I made some real bonehead plays down the stretch,” Bird stated. “I share everyone else’s shock. Since coming here, I have never felt worse than I do now.” Bird refrained from insulting coach Jimmy Rodgers. It was evident that Boston lacked depth on the bench as they only managed four points against the Knicks in Game 5. It was also clear that the Celtics were headed in the wrong direction since Reggie Lewis was the only youthful player in the starting lineup and the elderly superstars had to play big minutes every week.

Fans will get the opportunity to meet prominent Boston sports players while shopping for new sporting products at Dick’s House of Sport grand opening later this week.

The 100,000-square-foot store in the Prudential Center opens on Friday, April 19, and will feature appearances by Hilary Knight, the captain of Boston’s Professional Women’s Hockey League club, and David Ortiz, the champion Boston Red Sox player.

On Friday, Ortiz will be present from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and Knight from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Meet-and-greets with celebrities won’t end there, though. From 12 to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, spectators can meet with members of the 1984 Boston Celtics, including Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, and Cedric Maxwell.

Then, on Sunday from 12 to 1:30 p.m., former Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron will make an appearance.

To attend the event and get a signature, you must have a wristband, which is restricted and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Time slots for appearances can abruptly alter.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony, in-store activities, and freebies are all planned for the big opening weekend. Every day, mystery gift cards will also be given to the first 100 adults in line.

The address of Dick’s House of Sports in Boston is 760 Boylston St.
