On a gorgeous day in Southern California, at 3 p.m., Barbra Streisand is asleep. She declares, “I’m still in my nightie.” “I adore lying in bed.”
Naturally, Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett, her dogs, are by her side. On today’s “Just for Variety” podcast, Streisand tells me that her kids nap in her bed.
Let Streisand work from her boudoir, please. She is promoting “Release Me 2,” her latest album, which is a compilation of ten previously unheard recordings from the EGOT winner’s vault. She performs “I’d Want It to Be You” with Willie Nelson on the recording, which makes its premiere on August 6. The recording was initially created for her 2014 album “Partners.” In 1979, “The Rainbow Connection” featuring Kermit the Frog was released. Regarding her collaboration with the late Jim Henson, Streisand explains, “I did it basically for my son [Jason Gould], who was a big fan of ‘The Muppet Movie’ and watched ‘Sesame Street.'” “And he cherished it.”
