The EGOT winner discusses her relationship with Miami Vice star Don Johnson in her recently released memoir, My Name Is Barbra. She explains how, even after their breakup, over 30 years later, he still tells her he loves her. even though she doesn’t feel the same way.
Streisand starts off by narrating how the two first became friends on a trip to Aspen around Christmas, and how she liked it when he approached her first. “This guy had nice teeth and an easy smile. He was tan and lean.” Streisand writes, “His name was Don Johnson, and he was the current Miami Vice TV show heartthrob.” “I must confess that I find attractive men to be very attractive. (Yes, I know I’m shallow.) It almost has the appearance of an artistic creation. I am a collector.”
In her description of their early courtship, she mentions attending a Mike Tyson fight in Atlantic City and says, “Normally a boxing match would not be at the top of my list, but Don loved all those boy things… watching football — which he tried to explain to me… hopeless — flying helicopters, racing boats.” She talks of their relationship as “fun, pure fun” and expresses her happiness at the moment.
