Wilt Chamberlain, the center of the Los Angeles Lakers, was the only player in basketball history to achieve statistically impossible feats. Wilt was a unique phenomenon, whether it was his 100-point performance or averaging 50 points and 25 rebounds in a single season.
It was a memorable season for Chamberlain and the Lakers in 1972. The team would go on to win its first championship in Los Angeles after going on an NBA record 33 games without a loss. On February 16, 1972, Chamberlain also permanently entered the annals of history.
Despite the Lakers losing to the Phoenix Suns 110-109, Chamberlain made NBA history by being the first player to reach 30,000 points in a career. He finished the game with 19 points, but at this point in his career, head coach Bill Sharman had him concentrate more on defense and rebounding.
Though Wilt was this Lakers team’s fourth-leading scorer (behind Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, and Jim McMillan), he remained a reliable player when it came to baskets. Probably the most dominant player the league has ever seen during his career was Chamberlain.
