Barbra Streisand is one of the world’s best-known singers and actors. With a six-decade career, she is one of the few performers to have received the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. She feels herself extremely fortunate, not just because of her awards, but also because she has discovered genuine love. Although she did it at an older age, her life story demonstrates that love takes time to arrive, but the wait is worthwhile. At Bright Side, we’ve looked back on Barbra Streisand’s love life and the secrets she’s imparted on staying happy and in love into her 80s.
Barbra Streisand was born in April 1942 and began her career in the 1960s by performing in nightclubs and theater. As a result, she participated in a few television shows and was nominated for album of the year at the Grammys in 1963. She met Elliot Gould when she auditioned for the play I Can Get It for You Wholesale, which was one of his final Broadway performances. After the last audition, she was told, “Thank you.” She was perplexed about being there and not knowing what would happen next, so she gave them her phone number and said, “So, will someone call me?” Gould remembered in an interview. “I wrote down her number and called her.”
She asked him to witness her performance, but he insisted on participating in the play together. So they were. The following year, they got married.
