Deadline broke the unexpected development, claiming that Tamala Jones and Stana Katic, who play Detective Kate Beckett and Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, respectively, have not been asked to reprise their respective roles due to financial concerns, despite the lack of an official Season 9 renewal. While it appears a ninth season will only consist of 13 episodes, co-lead Nathan Fillion has not yet formally confirmed his return (both options expire after Season 8; Fillion was at least invited to re-up).
