The third season of Absentia is now in development at Amazon, and the writers are actually just starting to produce the show in the writers’ room. After the second season of the psychological drama series debuted on Amazon Prime in June of last year, Stana Katic made hints that production was already begun. Katic posted a picture of the writers’ room with a clapper on show at the table on Instagram. The words “Absentia Season Three” were written on it, suggesting that the writers had been brainstorming ideas for the upcoming season once more.
According to TV Guide, Katic stated, “[Emily] may not be a soldier, but in some ways she is, and she’s returning from a version of war.” Similar to Odysseus, she must pass psychological tests and face trials before returning home and gaining control over her own body and identity. She also wants to be able to make decisions about her own future, not that of anybody else. The third season of Absentia will probably delve deeper into Emily’s PTSD, which has been gradually revealing itself over the previous two seasons. Can she trust herself and her decisions this time around, now that she has discovered important individuals to trust?
Absentia maintains a consistent and devoted fan base, particularly in European nations, despite not being well-liked by mainstream viewers. First broadcasts of the show include Australia, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Israel, India, South Korea, Turkey, and Singapore. Prior to its premiere in the United States, the series was televised in Spain and Russia. In 2017, Amazon bought the series. Matt Cirulnick and Gaia Violo are the creators of Absentia. It centers on a former FBI agent who, after pursuing a serial killer, has been declared dead. This agent reappears in a hut six years later with no memory of how she got there.
Deadline said that while Amazon has not formally announced the renewal of Absentia season 3, the streaming service is still finalizing the decision. The news source additionally verified that the production crew is getting ready in Bulgaria, the same country used for the first and second seasons. In the meantime, as Emily (Katic) attempted to make sense of the years she had left out of her life, Absentia season 2 delved deeper into her identity. Katic compared the narrative of the second season to the traditional myth of “Odysseus.”
