The next Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, will appear on screens in 2025 when Milly Alcock, from “House of the Dragon,” plays James Gunn’s “Superman.” Melissa Benoist, who recently hung up her own cape, is especially eager for Alcock to feel the character’s weight. On CBS and The CW’s “Supergirl,” Benoist portrayed the Kryptonian for six seasons until the show’s 2021 series finale. She will now appear on screen as a journalist once more, but this time it will be in Max’s upcoming film “The Girls on the Bus,” which opens on March 14.
Before the show, Benoist expressed her excitement to TheWrap about seeing Alcock soar. If there’s one thing she can’t wait for Alcock to experience on the journey, though, it’s the impact. “Supergirl is such a great role model for young women, so I think that’s why the character and the IP are so iconic,” Benoist remarked. I’m eager for anyone donning the cape and glyph to experience that, so I think that’s what they should do.

“To observe how young women will perceive you, to recognize themselves in the character, to feel empowered by it, and to feel like super girls themselves,” she went on. I thus hope that she senses that.
