Liverpool endured a rotten away record in the Premier League last season with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp having made an amusing admission about his side’s fortune on the road following their victory over Wolves
As he continued to be denied a well-earned pint, Jurgen Klopp claimed that Liverpool’s dismal away record from home during the previous campaign transformed him into a “anti-alcoholic.”
Last season, the Reds had a very difficult time with things away from Anfield. Before English football was compelled to take a break for the World Cup in Qatar, eight of their nine Premier League losses occurred on the road. In contrast, they only managed two away league victories.
They have unquestionably progressed since then. Eight away games without a loss, with five of those victories, were achieved on Saturday with a 3-1 comeback victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. That winning streak will make many people happy, including Klopp, who can now relax with a drink when he gets back to Merseyside.
The Liverpool manager remarked after the final horn at Molineux: “Much better, it feels much better, I only have a beer when we win an away game. I also nearly developed an anti-alcoholic personality last year! Thus, it is undoubtedly better.
“But everything is new, as we all know. Even though it was terrible and would have been helpful, we can’t always bring up the previous season. However, it’s clear that we no longer consider our road record, so when we arrived here today and I watched the first half, I didn’t think the same as I did the previous season. We need to improve and come up with something fresh.
In their matchup with Wolves, Liverpool had several challenges. The first period was completely dominated by the home team, who rightly took the lead thanks to Hwang Hee-Chan.
The men of Gary O’Neil were forced to regret a number of squandered opportunities and should have increased their lead. Following the break, Liverpool improved and eventually earned three points thanks to goals from Andrew Robertson, Cody Gakpo, and an own goal by Hugo Bueno.
