New ‘incorrect’ decision against Liverpool from the Tottenham match is made by a Premier League panel.
The Independent Key Match Incidents Panel for the Premier League believes that Diogo Jota shouldn’t have been dismissed during Liverpool’s contentious 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Jota drew two yellow cards in rapid succession for confrontations involving Destiny Udogie; the Liverpool forward was sent the first one even though there didn’t appear to be any contact between him and the Spurs full-back.
Less than 120 seconds after receiving his first caution, Jota lunged at Udogie, and referee Simon Hooper quickly brandished a second yellow card in the Portugal international’s direction.
However, five members of the Premier League’s Independent Key Match Incidents Panel voted 3-2 in favor of not giving Jota a second caution, according to a recent ESPN story. According to the investigation, the 69th-minute lunge “did not meet the threshold for a yellow card” and the decision was “incorrect.”
