According to a stunning report, Liverpool is confident they can finalize a fantastic deal for Kylian Mbappe next summer. Mbappe will become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
After being strongly linked to leaving the Parisians this summer, Mbappe’s future at PSG has become more and more hazy. Real Madrid was reportedly considering a move for the French forward, but Al-Hilal put in a world record bid of £257 million.
After a falling out with the club, the former World Cup winner was even sent to play for PSG’s B-team. However, under manager Luis Enrique, he is currently back in the starting lineup.
Although the player and the club have maintained “peaceful relations” since he was reinstated in August, it is still unknown whether he will sign a contract extension before the end of the current campaign. However, L’Equipe reports that the possibility of an extension “is not being ruled out.”
The report goes on to say that Liverpool, who have “never broken contact with the player’s entourage” since a botched attempt to sign Mbappe in 2017, are holding out hope that they can profit from the uncertainty surrounding his future.
Prior to his £200 million transfer from Monaco to PSG, it is reported that Mbappe and Jurgen Klopp had discussions before the player decided to move to the French city.
Since those talks, Liverpool has never stopped believing that they could sign Mbappe someday. The Frenchman has been strongly linked to the Reds in recent seasons.
Although L’Equipe notes that it might be a “surprise” to see Mbappe at Anfield the following season, they also note that things might change by the summer.
According to the report, Mbappe will “carefully consider all options” before deciding, with Real Madrid being one of the front-runners to sign him.
With 23 points from their first ten games, Liverpool has had a strong start to the season thanks to some outstanding play from forwards Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo. However, having a superstar like Mbappe in the lineup would really help the team reach new heights.
It follows Mbappe’s third-place finish behind Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland of Man City at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
He was pictured’slow clapping’ Haaland as he made his way to the stage, prompting supporters to compare him to a ‘bored dad at a recital’.
The two aim to be the next big rivals in the competition for future Ballon d’Or awards, following Ronaldo and Messi.
