Following their 1-0 victory over reigning champion Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool moved up to seventh place in the Premier League standings.
The Manchester City manager said that pennies were thrown at him on Sunday afternoon, so Jurgen Klopp apologized to Guardiola.
Liverpool’s incredible goal from Mohamed Salah helped them upset Guardiola’s team 1-0 at Anfield. The outcome is significant for the Reds because, prior to Sunday afternoon, they were mired in 11th place, 13 points behind City, and had a game remaining. It’s now the eighth.
Guardiola voiced his dissatisfaction at a press conference following the Premier League match, saying, “Next time we will do it better.” I didn’t get it. Next year, they give it another go. These coins were all attempts at understanding. Years ago, they acquired the coach.”
Regarding Guardiola’s remarks, Klopp responded, “Oh, terrible. I apologize. I’m sorry about that. It was unknown to me. It ought never to occur.”
Liverpool has addressed the claims as well. According to a statement: “At today’s game, there was an incident where objects were thrown into the technical area. This behavior is completely unprofessional and does not meet the standards that Anfield expects of its employees.
“This incident will be fully investigated using CCTV and those found guilty will be punished, including a lifetime ban from Anfield Stadium and a possible football banning order.”
The “vile chants” that were supposedly heard from the away end were denounced by Liverpool as well. “We are deeply disappointed to hear vile chants relating to football stadium tragedies from the away section during today’s game at Anfield,” the statement continued. Similar graffiti was also vandalized on the concourse in the away section.
