Football Insider has been informed that Liverpool is the team spearheading the effort to have the Premier League settle Man City’s financial fair play lawsuit.
The Premier League is under pressure from the Merseyside club to wrap up their probe into the triple winners from the previous season.
Liverpool would prefer that a decision be made prior to the 2024–2025 season beginning.
The Premier League implemented new regulations in September, as The Athletic reported, guaranteeing that all financial discipline cases are “fast-tracked” to provide clarity about penalties and point punishments.
Everton received a 10-point deduction after an independent committee determined last week that the team had violated financial standards.
After a four-year investigation, the Premier League charged Man City with 115 violations of financial regulations in February; the Everton probe was started in March.
Although it is clear that the scope of City’s FFP case is greater than the inquiry into Everton’s lone accusation, rival teams are starting to lose patience with City’s case’s ongoing delays.
It is known that Manchester United has acted to support the resolution of City’s lawsuit as well.
Everton said in a club statement that they will “monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules” in addition to being penalized points.
City is accused of financial offenses that occurred between 2009 and 2018.
City’s trial will take place in front of an impartial commission, much like Everton’s.
The Times reports that there is a “very real prospect of relegation” for the seven-time Premier League winners if they are found guilty. They might also suffer a significant points loss or perhaps be demoted from the top division.
