Current Aston Villa transfer news as information about Juventus’ Federico Chiesa becomes available following the summer transfer window
According to reports, Aston Villa was prepared to break their transfer record in order to acquire Federico Chiesa, a winger for Juventus.
During the summer, Villa was mentioned as a possible destination for the 25-year-old Italian, but the Italian chose to remain at Juventus.
However, Romeo Agresti of Goal has provided an update on Villa’s efforts to recruit Chiesa, so it was not for lack of trying.
According to reports, Villa intended to “put around €70m in the pot” in order to recruit Chiesa from Juventus, and there was “no shortage of interest” from England. But, in spite of their best efforts, no conversations ever “came to fruition”.
For Villa, it was possibly a lucky break, as he promptly signed Moussa Diaby to join Bayer Leverkusen. With his early performances, the winger is quickly establishing himself as value for money and has had a great start to life at Villa Park. In his first four Premier League outings, he has two goals and an assist.
In the meanwhile, Chiesa is expected to sign a new contract in the upcoming months to allay concerns about his availability during the January transfer window. That might put a permanent stop to Villa’s interest in pursuing the Italy international once more.
Since joining Juventus in the summer of 2020 on a loan from Fiorentina, he has made 97 appearances and scored 24 goals. In three Serie A games this season, he has scored twice.
The winger was a key member of the Italy squad that defeated England in the postponed Euro 2020 championship game in the summer of 2021. He was the player that helped the Italians win 1-0 at Wembley Stadium.
