Boston Celtics transfer plan revealed as next player to be joining in exposed

Boston — With a 23-6 record, the Celtics lead the NBA and are a complete machine right now. However, before the NBA trade deadline, Brad Stevens will still allegedly want to add to Boston’s depth, and he is apparently eyeing a seasoned big man who has experience playing in green.

The Celtics are reportedly interested in a possible reunion with Utah Jazz big man Kelly Olynyk, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. This season, the 32-year-old has played primarily as a reserve for Utah, averaging 22 minutes per game (seven of which have been starts). Should Brad Stevens be able to wrest him away from Danny Ainge, he would likely play a similar role in Boston.

In addition to scoring 7.9 points per game on average, the 6-foot-11 Olynyk is shooting well, with a career-best 55 percent from the field and 42 percent from three-point range. This season, Olynyk has contributed 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists a game.

Olynyk spent his first four NBA seasons in Boston after being selected with the 13th overall choice by Ainge and the Boston Celtics in the 2013 NBA Draft. After stints with the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, and Detroit Pistons, he has spent the last two seasons playing with the Jazz.

Now that Ainge is leading the Jazz, there is a definite relationship between Utah and Boston. Olynyk would provide depth for the Boston Celtics behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford, as well as an improvement over Luke Kornet off the bench. However, the 24-year-old big man Neemias Queta has been playing very well for the team lately.

The C’s needing to match Olynyk’s $12 million contract would be the largest obstacle, as it wouldn’t be easy for a team that is already over the luxury tax and has several cap constraints. Brad Stevens would probably lose a significant portion of the team’s existing depth, and Olynyk will be a free agency after the season

. But before the trade deadline on February 8, the Celtics are searching for ways to add more big men to their roster, and Stevens might decide to bring a well-known player back into the fold.
