If Bayern Munich is unable to sign Harry Kane this summer, they have picked Julian Alvarez of Manchester City as a backup.
HOW COME THAT? Bayern Munich has already made Tottenham two offers for Kane, and this week they even met with club president Daniel Levy. The English captain is still their top target this summer, but in the event that a deal falls through or the striker joins them after his contract with his current club expires in 2024, the Bundesliga champions have a backup plan, according to Sky Sports, and that is to sign Julian Alvarez on loan from Manchester City.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: In addition to Alvarez, Bayern has also shortlisted Niclas Fullkrug of Werder Bremen and Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: In addition to Alvarez, Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and Werder Bremen attacker Niclas Fullkrug were also on Bayern’s shortlist.
Alvarez also had a noteworthy 2022–23 season, winning the treble with City and the World Cup with Argentina. The Argentine played in 49 games in all competitions in his first season with City, scoring 17 goals and dishing out five assists.
THEN WHAT? Paris Saint-Germain has entered the contest to sign Kane, so even though Bayern Munich remains the favorite to do so this summer, they would have competition.
