When JJ Redick was chosen to become the Los Angeles Lakers’ third head coach in four years, there were good reasons to have misgivings. Redick worked in the media following his retirement and has no NBA coaching experience. DeAndre Jordan, nevertheless, thinks his former Los Angeles Clippers colleague will succeed in his new venture. The Denver Nuggets center shared his thoughts on why he believes Redick will be a great leader of the Purple and Gold in an episode of the Podcast P Show.

“I mean, I think that’s a tough job. That team, in my opinion, clearly earned 17 titles. It is anticipated that they will prevail. As you are aware, P, they have high expectations for everyone. They won’t handle him as a first-year head coach with no prior head coaching experience. ‘Nah, you’re expected to come here and win,’ is what will happen. That’s all there is to it. However, as you may recall, JJ attended Duke, faced immense pressure throughout his career, and overcame numerous obstacles. I believe he’s ready for the task. My support is with JJ. I’m hoping he succeeds,” DeAndre continued.

Redick, though, was the Clippers’ preferred shooter. In 266 career games for the Clippers, he averaged 15.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while nailing an incredible 44% of his deep shots. Jordan was able to fully appreciate Redick’s communication skills after engaging in combat for four years. However, coaching with the Lakers is not a position for the weak of heart.
