Lamar Wilkerson, one of the most sought-after players in the college basketball transfer portal, has trimmed his list of potential destinations to just two programs: Indiana and Kentucky. The Sam Houston State guard, who emerged as a top-15 scorer in the nation last season, recently completed official visits to both schools and is expected to announce his decision later this week.
Wilkerson, a 6-foot-5 rising senior from Ashdown, Arkansas, made a significant impact during his junior year, averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He was remarkably efficient, shooting 47.7% from the field, 44.5% from three-point range, and 82.2% from the free-throw line. His shooting prowess was on full display as he ranked sixth nationally in three-pointers made per game and eighth in three-point percentage.
After visiting Indiana, Wilkerson left Bloomington without making a commitment, keeping Hoosier fans in suspense. He then traveled to Lexington for a visit with Kentucky, where head coach Mark Pope is looking to finalize a roster that already boasts several high-profile transfers and returning talent. Kentucky’s recent additions, including Croatian big man Andrija Jelavic and the return of Brandon Garrison, have positioned the Wildcats as a preseason top contender, and Wilkerson’s commitment could further solidify their status.
Wilkerson’s recruitment has been closely watched, with both Indiana and Kentucky making strong pitches. Indiana, under new coach Darian DeVries, is eager to add Wilkerson’s scoring and shooting ability to a roster that has already seen several key additions this offseason. For Kentucky, landing Wilkerson would add another elite shooter to a deep and talented backcourt, potentially elevating the Wildcats into the preseason top five nationally.
Wilkerson has canceled all other scheduled visits, including trips to Auburn and Ole Miss, signaling that his decision will come down to either the Hoosiers or the Wildcats. He is expected to return home and discuss his options with family before making an official announcement.
As the college basketball world waits for Wilkerson’s decision, both Indiana and Kentucky fans are hopeful that the prolific scorer will choose their program, knowing his addition could be a game-changer for the 2025-26 season.
