We’ll soon lose count of all the tennis records that Carlos Alcaraz has shattered. He isn’t the top player right now, but in 2023 he became the youngest player to ever be ranked #1 in the ATP. It seems that his only area for improvement is learning to pace himself so that he can stay excellent well into November every year.
Carlos Alcaraz has advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2024. In Grand Slam events that he participated in, he became the youngest player to advance at least to the fourth round since the legendary Bjorn Borg. Alcaraz has participated in major tournaments since the 2022 Australian Open and has never missed a fourth round.
Although Alcaraz did not participate in the major, he did not lose the 2023 Aussie Open. Consequently, his streak is unbroken. In addition, Carlos Alcaraz has advanced to at least the semifinals in each of the previous four Grand Slam competitions he participated in before the Australian Open. But given how he is playing, he probably will make it to the Melbourne semifinals at the very least.
In his entire career, Bjorn Borg participated in just one Australian Open. In 1974, he made it to the third round. Following his victory at the French Open in 1975, Borg went on an incredible run of 20 consecutive Grand Slams in which he reached at least the fourth round. This run of success in majors dates back to the US Open in 1981. Alcaraz just needs to make it to the fourth round of the next 14 Grand Slams he participates in to defeat Borg.
