Congratulations to Paula Badosa on her birthday today

Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa sent her best wishes to her rival-turned-friend Victoria Azarenka, who celebrated her 34th birthday on Monday, July 31.

Because she has a fantastic friendship with Azarenka on and off the court, World No. 33 Badosa recently took to social media to wish the 19th-ranked player by posting an Instagram story and tagging her. The post reads:

The two players have faced off three times on the WTA Tour, with Azarenka leading 2-1. In their first clash, Badosa won a key final, claiming one of her career’s most notable wins, the 2021 Indian Wells.

Later, in an interview with Marca, the Spaniard revealed what the Belarusian told her after losing the title fight. “After losing the final, as competitive as she is and with everything she has won in her career, she came up to tell me that my visor was very sweaty and that I should change it because those photos were going to go out all over the world,” Badosa told ESPN.

As a result, their match at Indian Wells established a basis for their friendship, based on mutual respect, and spurred them to pair up for a doubles match at the 2022 Adelaide International. Azarenka, a two-time Australian Open champion, defeated Badosa in the tournament’s first round of singles.When Badosa retired during the match in Guadalajara in 2022 due to illness, the 34-year-old extended her head-to-head lead.

The World No. 33 was forced to withdraw from the 2023 French Open after suffering a back ailment. In an Instagram story, she updated her fans on her spinal injury and stated that she hopes to return to professional tennis with a participation in the 2023 Canadian Open.
