Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could tonight shuffle his pack for the start of the club’s Champions League defence as Red Star Belgrade come to town.
The likes of Nathan Ake, Sergio Gomez, Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes all came off the bench during the win at West Ham, and could be afforded starts against the Serbians.
Stefan Ortega is another looking for minutes, though Ederson was first-choice in the Champions League last season.
Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish, and John Stones are still sidelined. Since the Community Shield, Stones has been out; Grealish picked up an injury before the most recent international break; and Kovacic developed a problem when traveling with Croatia this month.
At a press conference, manager Pep Guardiola stated: “They are improving, not for tomorrow. Hopefully [Kovacic and Grealish can play] [against] Nottingham or in the upcoming games.
“We need them soon, Jack needs to compete with Jeremy [Doku], the feeling to play has to be good to be in the squad.”
Predicted Walker, Akanji, Ake, Lewis, Rodri, Nunes, Foden, Alvarez, Doku, and Haaland make up the starting lineup for Manchester City.
No reservations
Stones, Grealish, Kovacic, and De Bruyne are all hurt.
Date and time: Tuesday, September 19, 8 p.m.
Location: Etihad Stadium.
