Marc Cucurella, a left-back for Chelsea, was the subject of a January transfer inquiry from Manchester City, according to Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive Uclfootballnews.com.
The Spaniard has struggled throughout his time at Stamford Bridge, but after an outstanding stint at Brighton earlier, he appeared to be a top defender in the making.
Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that Man City was still interested in borrowing Cucurella from Chelsea in the middle of last season. This was most likely done to fill the void left by the outgoing Joao Cancelo, who moved on loan to Bayern Munich that winter.
Romano has detailed exactly what City sought to do with the Cucurella transaction and the reasons Chelsea finally declined it.
“It is true, however, that Manchester City approached Chelsea at the beginning of January with a loan proposal for Marc Cucurella,” Romano wrote in today’s CaughtOffside blog on Substack.
Additionally, a buy option clause that was optional was incorporated. Cucurella and Man City had nothing further to do after Chelsea’s rejection since they wanted to keep him at the club.
Romano also revealed information on MCFC’s connections to other well-known players, including Warren Zaire-Emery of Paris Saint-Germain and Kaoru Mitoma of Brighton.
The Mitoma connections don’t seem to be very significant right now, whereas Zaire-Emery is a significant long-term player for PSG.
“I’d want to dispel a few Manchester City transfer rumors that have been going around,” Romano said. “Some fans have specifically asked me about the links with Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma, who has also been named as someone Liverpool are keeping an eye on.
“From what I gather, there is currently nothing to disclose regarding players or clubs. I asked today. Brighton loves Mitoma and is certain that they want him to sign a long-term contract. It’s not unusual to see big clubs show interest in him, but much like with Evan Ferguson, nothing will happen this or next month despite the ten or so links we receive each week.
Mitoma is entirely focused on Brighton, and they aren’t even willing to discuss the player’s asking price.
“Finally, in his editorial on Friday, my fellow columnist Jonathan Johnson discussed information regarding City’s interest in Warren Zaire-Emery over the summer. But he said that PSG have never been eager to consider parting with this gifted young player.
