He completed nine steps in what is now regarded as one of the most notorious journeys in recent memory after making a few more pivots and foot shufflings.
In the NBA, travel is not a recent problem. Hundreds of user-compiled missed traveling call videos, some of which are pretty egregious, can be found with a quick YouTube search.
Phil Jackson’s recent critical remarks to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report regarding LeBron James’ dubious footwork are therefore not entirely shocking.
He mentioned watching LeBron James, for instance. “If he’s not on the ball, he might travel every other time he catches the ball. After catching the ball, he makes two foot motions. It’s something you witness frequently. There isn’t any discipline, structure, or understanding of “how to play this game.” And the entire game is affected by it. Guys are pushing guys away with their hands instead of screening these days.”
