Borg vs. McEnroe, which is based on a true story, tells the story of the famous 1980 Wimbledon match between tennis legends Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe (Sverrir Gudnason and Shia LaBeouf, respectively).
Because of his tennis prowess and his volatile nature, McEnroe had already established a reputation for himself; the intense competition didn’t help. The movie chronicles the thrilling build-up to the pivotal moment in tennis history. Lennart Bergelin (Stellan Skarsgard), Borg’s tennis coach, and Mariana Simionescu (Tuva Novotny), Borg’s wife, are also featured.
John McEnroe had multiple aliases throughout his tennis career. Not as nice as the colloquial “Johnny Mac,” were some nicknames like “Superbrat.” He will now be known by a new name: Shia LaBeouf.
The professional tennis player currently holds the top spot in the world rankings for both singles and doubles. With 77 singles titles and 78 doubles titles at the end of his career, he still holds the record. Furthermore, he is equally well-known for his combative style of play on the court. Someone with a similar public persona is portraying him in Borg vs. McEnroe.
