There are injury updates for Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta must anxiously await word on Bukayo Saka’s condition before Sunday afternoon’s Premier League matchup against Manchester City.
Bukayo Saka is expected to be available for Arsenal’s Premier League match against Burnley this coming weekend. After losses to West Ham and Newcastle, the Gunners want to get back to winning ways in domestic play.
After defeating Sevilla 2-0 on Wednesday, Mikel Arteta’s team advanced one step closer to qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages. Before the November international break, Arsenal had to cope with yet another injury worry.
After taking a hit to the ankle, Eddie Nketiah was ruled out of duty, and Saka, who had a goal and an assist against Sevilla, had to be taken off the field as he hobbled out of the Emirates Stadium. The Spanish team had taken a rough approach to the England international, who was repeatedly fouled and kicked.
The 22-year-old was tackled for a header and fell awkwardly with only a few minutes left on his clock. He attempted to continue after receiving initial treatment from the physiotherapists, but a few minutes later Jakub Kiwior had to step in and take his place.
During his press conference following the game, Arteta expressed his optimism for good news on Saka’s fitness. “It was just a kick and I was told by the physios on the radio he wasn’t happy to continue,” he explained.
“So he will have some discomfort but hopefully I am going to assume he will be OK,” Arteta stated. The Arsenal manager is anticipated to provide a new Saka update during his pre-Burnley press conference this afternoon.
