Nico Williams and Athletic Club both turned down Aston Villa’s €50 million offer during the most recent transfer window. Sport claims that Liverpool is threatening to make a comparable offer that would satisfy his termination clause.
Aston Villa’s bid of 50 million euros, the amount specified in his termination clause, could have enticed Nico Williams to leave Athletic Club Bilbao during the previous winter transfer window.
Although it was in the midst of the season and all of the team’s goals were still ahead of them, neither the player nor the Bilbao club accepted the idea. But that was merely a cautionary tale for the Basque club.
50 million euros is a low amount for one of the best European clubs and, more importantly, for the Premier League, which is why the Spanish team are looking to expedite the transfer of one of their best players, according to ‘Sport’. Liverpool are also reportedly interested in the younger Williams to strengthen their attack in the summer, and the Anfield side are already considering the possibility of paying the said figure if he does not renew his contract.
