Tennis icons John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg joked around during a lighthearted moment about taking part in a TV prank where they had to practice on Wimbledon’s famous Centre Court. The two icons’ witty exchange demonstrated their obvious friendship and enjoyment of each other following their prior rivalries.
Known for their numerous matchups in the 1970s and 1980s, which included the Wimbledon finals in 1980 and 1981, Borg, then 67, won five straight championship trophies, while McEnroe, then 64, won three.
The two tennis greats have forged a close friendship while serving as team captains at the Laver Cup, despite their historical rivalry. Regretfully, McEnroe says the All England Club turned down his request for a ceremonial hit on the prestigious 15,000-seater court at the SW19 grounds.
Recreating the 1980 final with retired players was deemed inappropriate due to recent reseeding of the grass. In an effort to play off being told no, the two chose to imitate smashing a racket and headed to Court 6.
On ESPN’s “McEnroe’s Places,” during the men’s semifinal match between Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner, an acknowledgement was made. Chris Fowler, a broadcaster, expressed excitement for the most recent installment.
