In a statement shared on her Instagram account on Friday, the Charmed actress—who is now battling stage 4 cancer—praised the Princess of Wales for her “strength” and denounced people who propagate untrue speculations about her location and health online. Doherty started off by saying, “Being a public figure does not mean the public owns that person.” “Everyone has the right to experience illness or life in private.”She went on, “This person was forced to explain herself before she had accepted it and given an explanation to her kids due to the deluge of ownership, conspiracy theories, and plain, morbid curiosity.” I hope that, despite being in the spotlight, this will teach us all to respect others’ privacy or [sic].Doherty said, “And Princess Kate, I admire your strength through the endless onslaught you’ve been under while going through cancer,” as a personal comment to Middleton before closing her note.
Middleton revealed in a video message on Friday that she had started chemotherapy following major abdominal surgery in January and learning she had cancer, setting off weeks of internet conjecture about her location and health. “Therefore, my medical team recommended that I have a preventative chemotherapy course, which I am currently undergoing in its early stages,” she clarified. With her husband, Prince William, by her side, the princess continued, saying that she is “well and getting stronger every day” and that this “is a great source of comfort and reassurance, too.”As a family, we now require some time, space, and solitude as I finish my treatment, and we hope that you will appreciate this,” she said. I’ve always felt a great feeling of fulfillment from my employment, and I eagerly anticipate returning when I can. However, my immediate priorities must be recovering fully.”
She sent a message to people who have experienced the illness firsthand as she wrapped up her video. “At this time I’m also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer,” she continued. “I implore everyone dealing with this illness, in whatever form, to hold onto their hope and faith. You’re not by yourself.
After a single surgery and chemotherapy, Doherty’s breast cancer went into remission after her initial treatment in 2015. But in 2019, she declared that the cancer had returned, this time at stage 4, and in November of last year, she revealed that it had spread to her bones. At the time, she told PEOPLE, “I’m not done with living.” “I have not stopped loving. I have more to create. Hopefully, I will continue to make positive changes. Simply said, I’m not finished.”
