Legendary tennis player Roger Federer and renowned designer JW Anderson have reteamed with UNIQLO to launch their second project, with inspiration this time coming from retro tennis styles from the 1970s and 1980s. The launch of the collection follows a resurgence of interest in tennis-inspired fashion, partly due to Zendaya’s looks from the “Challengers” press tour.
This collection incorporates UNIQLO’s iconic functional fabrics and takes design cues from past tennis eras, according to Anderson. “I think we’ve created pieces that capture the spirit of sports while also functioning as adaptable daily wear that anybody can take pleasure in.”
The collection’s standout piece is a lightweight parka with raglan sleeves that feature color-blocking tape for an enhanced boxy silhouette that reflects a stylish yet practical design philosophy. The collection also includes AIRism polo shirts with Anderson-evocative border stripe patterns and nylon jogger pants that mimic the easy elegance of retro track pants.
