Thomas Partey, a midfielder for Arsenal, has a new injury issue during the international break, and his fitness is unknown. The 30-year-old now joins a growing list of potential concerns ahead of the team’s London derby matchup with Chelsea.
Partey, Jurrien Timber, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Bukayo Saka, and William Saliba have all had a period of injury-related absence for the Gunners over the past month. The last three had to leave their respective national team rosters, however there have been occasional returns.
Trossard was examined by Belgium’s medical team for a minor tweak, but he was given the all-clear to return to Arsenal to recover during the two-week break. Similar circumstances occurred for Saka, who was injured but missed the match between the Arsenal and Manchester City.
Saliba had a persistent problem with his big toe that had been bothering him for a few weeks, but he had managed to play despite it. also three were hoping for a prompt return, which would significantly cut down on the number of absentees, and they also hoped there wouldn’t be any injuries over the break.
Partey, who has only recently returned from a layoff, is the subject of mounting anxiety, prompting Mikel Arteta to send a club physio along with the midfielder on international duty. The following match between Ghana and Mexico, which they ultimately lost 2-0, saw him given the go-ahead to start.
Partey was named to the starting lineup but was replaced at halftime because he was unable to finish the game. At this point, it’s unclear whether the move was a tactical one made by head coach Chris Hughton in an effort to balance the workload or if there are more fundamental issues at play.
