For his consistency at pivotal moments, Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird was revered by both opponents and supporters. In contrast to other Hall of Famers who acknowledged feeling under pressure when faced with such obstacles, Bird remained unmoved and continuously gave outstanding performances.
Bird gave credit to his unwavering work ethic and self-assurance in his abilities when asked how he was able to step up during pivotal games. “I’m not sure. Because you could never predict what would happen when you started those games. Bird told ESPN’s Mike Mazzeo, “I always had enough confidence in my ability, and I put in the time and the hard effort. (h/t to Basketball Network’s John Jefferson Tan). “The pressure was never really felt by me.”
“I wanted to perform at a high level for myself, so my only concern was always how I was going to perform. And you were unaware of that before to entering the court,” he said.
