Lions’ Playoff Health Status: Key Returns and Absences
The Detroit Lions enter the playoffs with mixed injury news, but critical reinforcements are returning to bolster their postseason run.
Key Returns
David Montgomery: The RB overcame an MCL sprain suffered Dec. 15, practicing fully by Jan. 14 and cleared for playoff action.
Terrion Arnold: The rookie CB avoided serious foot injury (diagnosed as a contusion) and is off the injury report.
Aidan Hutchinson: The DE (broken leg Oct. 13) remains a long shot, but Dan Campbell hasn’t ruled out a Super Bowl return if Detroit advances.
Ennis Rakestraw: The CB (hamstring) is eligible and could provide depth.
Notable Absences
Kevin Zeitler: Starting guard (hamstring) ruled out for the Divisional Round, replaced by rookie Christian Mahogany.
Pat O’Connor: DL (calf) remains sidelined long-term.
Derrick Barnes & Carlton Davis: LB (torn MCL/PCL) and CB (fractured jaw) are out for the postseason.
Verdict
While the Lions lack depth at linebacker and guard, Montgomery’s return stabilizes the offense, and Arnold’s availability shores up the secondary. Hutchinson’s potential late return remains a wild card. Overall, they’re healthier than most playoff contenders but face critical gaps. Victory is still ours!!
