With the January transfer market being quiet, this is probably Jurgen Klopp’s final opportunity to add players before he steps down as manager at the end of the campaign.
For Liverpool over the previous 20 years, the January transfer window has produced very mixed results.
The Reds have only made one or two signings in previous seasons, usually in order to beat competitors to the best players. Jurgen Klopp brought in Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo six months ahead of schedule, and that is what actually transpired with them.
That was not always the case, though; prior to Klopp’s arrival in 2015, Liverpool’s approach resulted in both hits and misses. Notwithstanding, a number of contemporary greats were signed in the winter.
