Manchester City hopes to raid Boca Juniors in order to carry on their habit of acquiring Argentinian players on the cheap.
Pep Guardiola has his sights set on a man who might be able to step into Pablo Zabaleta’s shoes. Manchester City already has their next Sergio Aguero at the club after pulling off a steal deal last summer. The Boca Juniors defender Valentin Barco is in high demand and the subject of interest from various clubs in Europe, according to reports, and the Premier League champions are in prime position to sign him.
The £8 million left-back, who has excelled since making his debut for the Argentinian giants in 2020 at the age of just 16, is up for grabs between City, Brighton, and Juventus.
Barco is regarded as a promising talent in his own country, and Pep Guardiola’s team is now ‘likely’ to sign the 19-year-old in January, according to the Daily Star.
At the tail end of the summer transfer season, Etihad officials had explored a transfer, but time ran out for the sides to reach an agreement. Even yet, Barco would have most likely continued his development at Boca until the end of the season regardless, as City was not in a haste to add him to the team.
