Mark Price jokingly claims credit for retiring Larry Bird, saying, “I like to tell people that I ended Larry’s career.”

Mark Price is claiming full credit for forcing Larry Bird into retirement because he thinks Bird is one of the greatest players in NBA history.

During a 2021 podcast interview with Basketball Time Machine, the legendary forward from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bird, joked about trying to advance the story that he had retired after the Cavs defeated him in the 1992 Eastern Conference Semifinals, where he had averaged 11.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.3 assists.

The year we made it to the Eastern Conference Finals was also Larry’s last game. I like to say, therefore, that I put an end to Larry’s career. He affected the game in so many different ways when he was in it and you were playing against them, Price said.
