The legendary Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics also had a shot. Jordan played it because he was passionate about the sport, which made a difference. Bird gave it a go because he was in the mood.

The school’s star basketball player, Bird, was first seen by Bob Warn, the baseball coach at Indiana State University from the 1970s to the 2000s, who noticed that Bird always iced his body in the locker room. Warn suddenly sought to irritate Bird as he walked up to him.

“You’re such a wimp,” Warn remembers saying to Bird. “I see you every night. You’re just icing the training room, Warn remarked, according to IndyStar.
“You know what I told him? Balls this size are used in games by real men.” Shaking his hands into a baseball shape, Warn spoke. “I said, ‘Anybody can play games with balls this size.'”Warn made a basketball out of his hands. “‘You just have to have a large basketball or you can’t do it.'”
Bird accepted the challenge, a competitor at heart: “I could do that,” Bird declared. “I could play baseball.”
