Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi at Pickleball Slam 2 at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood on February 4, 2024 in Hollywood, Florida.
Returning for a second season, the Pickleball Slam features a few new competitors and a slightly modified format, all vying for a $1 million cash purse.
The new tournament format will include doubles matches with professional pickleball players and tennis legends, rather than just singles matches. After competing in 2023, John McEnroe and Andre Agassi are back, along with pickleball players Jack Sock and James Blake and female athletes Maria Sharapova and Steffi Graff.
Pickleball and tennis are very similar sports, but pickleball has a few unique features that set it apart from tennis, like names for particular areas of the court and places where players can stand when they hit the ball.
The competition honors what is arguably the fastest-growing sport in the United States. Major League Pickleball, the Professional Pickleball Association, and the Association of Pickleball Professionals are the current professional pickleball leagues and tours.
Over the years, a number of well-known athletes and celebrities have also made investments in the sport, including Michael B. Jordan, Drake, LeBron James, and Tom Brady.
