REPORT: As £107m bid accepted Son Heung-min to Liverpool is a Done deal

After deciding not to make a bid for Tottenham Hotspur forward, Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool will eventually come to understand that they made the right decision. Heung-min Son.

In an interview with KBS News in 2022, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said, “Not signing Son Heung-min is one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made.” “He is fantastic, a sign of Korean football and one of the best strikers in the world.”

Goal reports that the quotations are “very likely” to be connected to Klopp’s tenure as Borussia Dortmund’s manager. However, the closest he may have gotten to make the signing was in 2022, when Son was considered a possible replacement for Sadio Mané when he departed Anfield.

Liverpool was’sniffing round’ the Tottenham Hotspur player, who was ‘intrigued’ in the possibility of going to Merseyside, according to The Telegraph. It’s ‘probable’ that he would have departed Spurs if they hadn’t won the Champions League that season.

Liverpool decided not to make a move as Tottenham ultimately defeated local rival Arsenal in the race for a spot in the top four. Rather, it acquired Benfica’s stellar number nine Darwin Núñez for a possible club record $107 million (£87 million/€100 million).

At the time of writing, no player in the competition has outperformed his xG by a greater margin this season (3.7), making Son maybe the finest finisher in the Premier League. And Son has overperformed in all but one campaign (twice by a margin larger than seven) and scored a stunning 26.4 goals more than projected during 2017–18, when FBRef began to have access to xG data. The only other season he was in the red was last season, and even then it was just by 0.1.

On Sunday, Núñez, on the other hand, missed three great opportunities in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Luton, demonstrating once again why he has to be regarded as one of the league’s least dependable elite forwards in front of goal. In just 39 Premier League games since his arrival at Anfield, he has already turned 30 rejections.
