Most people agree that Michael Jordan is among the greatest players to have ever played the sport. Jordan was named to 11 All-NBA teams, made 14 All-Star appearances, won six titles, five MVP awards, and ten scoring championships between 1984 and 2003.
While his historical significance is undeniable, many people are curious about what he could accomplish in the modern game. How would he do in an NBA that is less physical, emphasizes 3-point shooting, and moves more quickly?
Jordan recently gave Roderick Boone of The Athletic his own opinion on the matter.
I believe you’ve described how I would play against these players in a variety of ways. I’m rather certain that I would modify things. I believe that the intensity of the game would remain. The passion of the game of basketball hasn’t altered, in my opinion. I believe the skill has evolved. It’s no longer as versatile, in my opinion.
Would I have been as successful now? We’ll never be aware of it. I’ll leave it up to your conjecture. However, I believe my love for the game would have remained the same. I’m a huge fan of basketball.
It’s quite difficult to predict with certainty how Michael Jackson might do today. Basketball has a different look and a new era.
However, the recipe for success remains the same. The things that set stars apart from everyone else are passion, perseverance, and natural talent; these are the same things that set Jordan apart from his classmates years ago.
It is reasonable to assume that a man such as his would be successful in virtually any era of basketball.
