Robert Redford was convinced to star in the 1973 film “The Way We Were” by Barbra Streisand.

Looking back, Barbra Streisand recalls how she persuaded Robert Redford to play the lead in the 1973 movie The Way We Were after he had declined the part twice.

The romantic drama centers on Katie Morosky (Streisand) and Hubbell Gardiner (Redford), an unlikely couple who fall in love in spite of tumultuous political and historical circumstances. The couple has to work through their relationship while attempting to go against core societal beliefs.
