Rudy Gobert of the Wolves is the 2023–24 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Along with Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace, Gobert is the third player in NBA history to win the award four times. In the past, the Wolves center won in 2020–21, 2018–19, and 2017–18.

The French native is the first player to win Defensive Player of the Year in Timberwolves history.

Under Gobert’s leadership, the Timberwolves led the NBA in defensive rating, gave up the fewest points per game, and forced opponents to shoot a low percentage on field goals. Minnesota (56-26) achieved the second-best record in the team’s history and secured the third playoff seed in the Western Conference with the aid of their top-ranked defense.

  • This season, Gobert led the team in rebounds (12.9), blocks (2.13), and points (14.0) on 66.1% shooting average per game. His 2.13 blocks per game surpassed his highest since 2020–21 (2.68 bpg). In terms of rebounding (12.9 rpg), field goal percentage (.661), offensive rebounds (3.8 rpg), defensive rebounds (9.2 rpg), blocks (2.13 bpg), and double-doubles (54), he was ranked second in the NBA.
