Sad News: Arsenal ex player suddenly passed away yesterday

Christian Atsu, a former Premier League player who went missing following the terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria 12 days ago, was found dead early on Saturday.

Both Christian Atsu’s agent and manager confirmed his passing at the age of 31.

Following the tragic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6, the former Premier League player, who played for both Newcastle United and Chelsea, went missing. Now that his body has been found, Saturday morning brought sorrowful confirmation of the terrible news.

Within hours of the earthquake, Atsu was reported missing. Just hours before the tragic incident took place, he scored a last-second winner for his current club Hatayspor against Turkish Super Lig rivals Kasimpasa on February 5 at home. Atsu joined the Turkish side in September of last year and was in Antakya at the time of the earthquake. In addition to representing Ghana during his career, he also played for clubs like Porto, Everton, Bournemouth, and Malaga.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well wishers that sadly Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning,” his agent Nana Sechere stated. My sincere sympathies are extended to his family and close friends. I’d like to use this chance to express my gratitude for everyone’s prayers and support.

“I ask that whilst we make the necessary arrangements, that everyone would please respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time.”

Tweeted Hatayspor: “Sorry for your loss. Christian Atsu’s burial, who perished in the collapse, is on its way to Ghana, where he was born and raised. Atsu, we won’t forget you. May you always be in peace, kind person. We lack the words to adequately express our anguish. Peace be with you.
