Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper for Aston Villa, is planning to sign with a premier team this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
After winning the World Cup last year, the 30-year-old is reportedly eager to achieve his goals of playing at a higher level and collecting additional trophies (2022).
Martinez has been connected to many elite teams in the run-up to the summer transfer window, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
On Monday, May 15, Football Insider disclosed that Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager of Chelsea, intends to prioritize purchasing a goalkeeper during the summer transfer window.
Martinez is rumored to be on his short list, along with Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana and Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
Martinez has a contract with Villa Park that expires in June 2027 and pays him an estimated £120,000 per week.
Consequently, convincing the Midlands giants to part with the goalkeeper in the off-season is probably going to require a massive offer.
Martinez, who moved from Arsenal to Aston Villa in 2020, has even donned the captain’s armband multiple times this season for Unai Emery’s team.
In 35 games this season, he has 13 clean sheets, helping Villa push for European qualification in the 2023–24 campaign.
After winning the World Cup, the 30-year-old has expressed publicly that he wants to play at the top level and bring home additional medals.
This season, three successive managers have failed to get a starting spot at Stamford Bridge for Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Even though Chelsea won’t have European football to offer potential recruits in the 2023–24 season, they nevertheless anticipate conducting a vigorous recruitment effort this summer.
