For the Kansas City Chiefs’ Sunday regular-season finale, backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert will start in Patrick Mahomes’ place as he is rested.
Mahomes has participated in every game this season, but with the Chiefs already guaranteed the No. 3 seed, coach Andy Reid announced on Wednesday that he will not wear a uniform this weekend.
The Chiefs’ regular season campaign has not gone as planned, but their performance against the Chargers on Sunday will not affect where they finish.
It’s still uncertain if Travis Kelce will play or take a day off.
The choice allows 34-year-old Gabbert, who joined the Chiefs in the offseason, to start his first game as a starter.
