The Pittsburgh Steelers recently signed another star-studded cornerback to their roster.
Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers may be ready to strike gold at cornerback this offseason after the Buffalo Bills made a bold decision by allowing one of the NFL’s best defenders to enter free agency.
After seven seasons in Buffalo, former All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White has been released, allowing him to become a free agency for the first time in his NFL career, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
White is coming off three injury-plagued seasons in a row and has legitimate concerns about his health. But when he’s on the field, his presence is noticed. He’s made 18 interceptions in his seven-year career, including one this season despite only playing four games.
White is coming off an achilles injury, which will reduce his expected deal with a new team. After suffering an injury in October, it is unclear whether he will be fully recovered before the start of the season, although he should be near.
The Steelers are looking for a starter cornerback to replace Joey Porter Jr. and have been linked to nearly every available player at the position this offseason. However, if White is both affordable and healthy, he may be the best option.
The team is anticipated to target a cornerback in the NFL Draft as well, and depending on whether they maintain or release Patrick Peterson, they might enter the season with Porter Jr., White, a highly ranked prospect, and possibly Peterson
. Expect the Steelers to at least look into White when free agency starts, and depending on how the market shakes out, he might be one of their top signing possibilities.
