Now a free agent, Damar Hamlin may choose to continue his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The safety position is critically needed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. It just so happens that Jordan Whitehead, Geno Stone, and of course Damar Hamlin—three native Pittsburghers—are all unrestricted free agents. The former Pitt safety and Central Catholic graduate is now eligible for free agency following his odyssey, which included a season-long return to the field with the Buffalo Bills.
Hamlin’s family traveled from neighboring McKees Rocks to watch him make many tackles during the preseason game against the Bills in Pittsburgh. Having thought about that, Hamlin crossed seeing an NFL game in Pittsburgh off his bucket list.
“It’s definitely not on my bucket list to play an NFL game in Pittsburgh,” Hamlin stated. “I’ve always wanted to play in front of my home city in this stadium as a professional. Buffalo was a lot of fun last year. Individuals conversing about various topics throughout the week. My friends are ardent Steelers supporters as well. They support us all season long, but they have to pick a side when we play the Steelers. However, love is present on both ends.
Damar Hamlin is back in his hometown for the offseason. He will find a new place to live when he becomes free agent. However, what if he didn’t need to travel far? Hamlin spoke candidly about his journey and future plans during an event organized by Billy Lesnak, expressing his desire to play for the Steelers.
It would be a dream come true for me to close my career as a Pittsburgh Steeler. You know I was at the stadium since I played at Pitt. After winning WPIAL titles and playing at Pitt, I probably spent eight years straight at Heinz Field, so concluding my career as a Steeler would be a dream come true, Hamlin admitted.
He would then get to see his old teammate Kenny Pickett again. However, the Steelers require starting capable players and depth in the defensive line. At the very least, Hamlin could support that team member. Furthermore, Hamlin has the utmost regard for Mike Tomlin. It is not surprising if this occurs.
