Cole Palmer has shared details about his initial departure from Manchester City.
Palmer enrolled in City’s academy at the age of six. Pep Guardiola gave him his senior debut in a game against Burnley in September 2020 as a result of his remarkable improvement.
In City’s packed midfield, Palmer appeared to be headed for a starting position. He decided instead to continue his career at Chelsea, where he was acquired in the summer transfer window for £42.5 million.
“It was a significant choice. I knew I was coming to London the next day when I left the practice field on Thursday,” he told Daily Mail.
“I simply had it all strike me as I was getting into the car to leave. You’ve been here for 15 years, I was just thinking.
I am unaware of any other options. Never have I received a loan. I have never left Manchester. I’ve only ever traveled outside of Manchester for vacations or away games. Even though going there feels strange, there is no time to waste. I need to act quickly.
Palmer has not yet made his Chelsea debut after signing a transfer in the closing hours of the window. We’ll have to wait and watch if Mauricio Pochettino starts the midfielder on Sunday against Bournemouth.
