Despite failing to score in his first five Premier League games, he has scored four in his last two, including a hat-trick on Saturday against Brighton & Hove Albion.
After making his debut in March 2021 and scoring twice, the 27-year-old has received seven caps for England. Gareth Southgate has recalled him for the forthcoming matches against Australia and Italy on Thursday of this month.
Watkins paid a club-record £28 million to join Villa from Brentford in 2020. In 127 games, he has scored 50 goals for the team.
Villa, who now sit fifth in the Premier League, will play their away game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Watkins scored his 50th goal for Villa and completed his hat-trick, making it easy for Villa to pickpocket during the transition. It was also his most comprehensive effort to date.
