To avoid losing Thiago Alcantara for nothing in the summer, Liverpool can decide to trade the player in January.
This information was provided by Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), which speculates that Barcelona may pursue their former star player to cover for Gavi’s injury.
Following “a complete tear” of the ACL in his right knee during a 3-1 victory over Georgia, the 19-year-old Spain international will have knee surgery (Guardian).
Happy recuperation, Gavi
We wish the athlete and his family the quickest possible recovery; this is very tragic news.
Regarding the speculation that our elegant playmaker may rejoin the top division in Spain, we have to wonder if it would be better to accept a nominal amount in exchange for losing the player sooner.
While some could contend that it would be a wise financial decision, it would seem like a monumental mistake to pass on Thiago’s talent for one more season.
It’s arguable that having him back fit for the second half of the season will be more beneficial than the £5 million or so we would gain from selling him in January.
But that’s just our opinion!
