Warriors Provide a Key Player Injury Update

Next week, one player will receive a new evaluation.

The Golden State Warriors have greatly missed Gary Payton II’s defense in the absence of Draymond Green. After missing games since November, the team has thankfully released an update regarding his injury.

This is how the update appears:

“Guard Gary Payton II was just re-evaluated. He sustained a right calf strain on November 28 at Sacramento and has missed the last nine (9) games. He has been cleared to start taking part in different aspects of team practice as the re-evaluation revealed that he is progressing well. He’ll have another evaluation early the following week.”

The Golden State Warriors have found a way to prevail without both Draymond Green and Gary Payton II for the time being. However, players will eventually become physically exhausted from carrying out the defensive labor that those two do. It’s preferable to get Gary Payton II back as soon as possible before that occurs.

Gary Payton II averaged 5.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 14 games this season on 48/32/67 shooting. Like most glue players in the league, he makes contributions that go well beyond the stats. It’s all about connecting the dots on the defensive end to improve the defensive performance of others. the small details that improve everyone else’s experience on the court.

The Washington Wizards will play the Golden State Warriors next on Friday at 10:00 p.m. EST.
